I play guitar, and it's really pretty cool to sit down (sort of) with David Crowder and have him teach you how to play a song. then show you step-by-step how to play it. Here's how it works: You get a menu that has all the band members names. I hope more praise bands steal this idea (sorry, David). Pick a song, and you get video of the band member you selected teaching you how to play his part of the song. It's hard to go wrong with this cd/dvd combo.
The dvd is well-shot, and if you turn on subtitles, you get lyrics and guitar chords, which is cool, but if you are a musician, the "Learn the songs" special feature is worth the price of admission even if that was all you got. Awesome idea. Fans of David Crowder won't be disappointed. They go through the equipment used, effects, etc. Get this, it's awesome. The music is fun ,upbeat, worshipful, and the sound quality is good.
You pick a band member, and another menu opens up that has all the songs on the dvd.
New York (which is where this was filmed) is singing for the great King. Catchy melodies, simple yet profound lyrics, edgy pop- rock worship. in that their songs are intrinsically who they are. If you have woken up a little late to this fresh wave of raw worship that is shouted out with Texan artistic flair - get this DVD and laugh with David and his honest, endearing and unbelievably melodic ways.
Having recently seen this band live at the Parachute Festival (January '09 New Zealand) I was hungry for more. This package was just what I needed. Music that repeats phrases followed by lyrics that too are deliberately repetitive but always for effect with a delightful twist that is poetic in style (unlike the repetition of a 90s church chorus not knowing where to end). What great value to have the experience of seeing DCB play live in your living room and then to take the CD with you for car play all for this low price. This is a perfect hits package of most of the DCB's music.
These songs slip in undetected and in the morning you awake declaring that the King is here. or just being undone as you cry out with the violin interlude of `You are my joy'. The David Crowder Band is so like the UK band delirious. There are a number of times where this occurs and you are drawn into that experience either singing along with the lyric subtitles (chords included).
When the crowd exuberantly sings the refrain `La, la, la, la,` that excitement that this is more than just a concert is sensed each time you watch. These are not songs for the studio but are fresh anthems for today. The 5.1 and DTS sound on the DVD is arguably a more engaging listening experience than the studio version as most of the material is written for crowd participation.
It even appeared they were having fun. All the band members show tremendous talent. I had a chance to see them live about a year ago in a nearby town but passed it up. After watching the video, I won't do that again.
You also have the option of using subtitles with chords while watching the concert. The special features of the DVD are videos of each band member explaining how to play almost every song from the concert. Probably just 'awesome'.
This DVD captures the atmosphere of the concert and since I was there at the Atlanta taping I pretty much know what it was like. Sometimes they will change locations in the middle of a song but you can't tell because the band is just that awesome. It's been a long time coming.
It's hard to say what genre DCB is. If you weren't lucky enough to be at this concert, get the DVD and it's basically like you were there. Best concert experience ever.
This DVD was taped in Atlanta and New York.
if you don't already own this compilation RUN to the nearest store and make the purchase. But, these comments are always followed by phrases like "greatly blessed by God", "incredibly talented", "like no other band ever", and so on. This man has indeed been given a ton of talent by God, and he in turn uses it for His glory. No one other than David Crowder can make you laugh, get you up out of your seat, take you to the edge of the throne with your eyes closed, and make you cry.
I can honestly say that DCB is the only group who continually blesses me and impresses me with each new CD release. You will not be disappointed. God bless you, David and the rest of the group. If you're a fan at all, don't even think about it. They never disappoint.
All on the same CD, or the same concert. Like the title of this review states, DCB delivers the goods again. I've heard it said, and read it, more than once that David is a goofy-looking dude. And I agree with every one.
